    Detailed Information:
The Captive Animals’ Protection Trust (CAPT) is a registered charity founded in 2004 to educate on issues relating to the treatment of captive animals, particularly those held in circuses, zoos and the exotic pet trade. The charity was formed from the Captive Animals’ Protection Society (CAPS), a respected campaign organisation founded in 1957.

The issue of animal captivity is one that concerns many people:

    * Animals in circuses live a miserable life of confinement and constant transportation and are often trained using brutal methods, all to provide ‘entertainment’
    * Zoos are little more than animal prisons, keeping millions of animals captive in conditions that are far different from their natural habitats. With animals having behavioural problems due to their confinement, and zoos playing an insignificant role in conservation, many people are questioning the very future of zoos
    * The exotic pet trade, in which huge numbers of animals are captured from the wild, results in huge welfare problems and is increasingly identified as a major source of disease transmission amongst animals and humans

CAPT works to prevent cruelty and to promote respect for animals through education.

We co-ordinate a network of people who give talks to schools and other groups, as well as producing educational materials for teachers, students and the general public.
