League of Humane Voters of New York City (LOHV-NYC)

The League of Humane Voters of New York City (LOHV-NYC) seeks to mobilize public concern for animals through the democratic political process. We campaign for the election of candidates for public office who will work to enact animal rights legislation. Recognizing that animal exploitation is a political issue and not just a moral one, we intend to make animal rights a mainstream political issue by building support among citizens, activists, political parties, candidates and elected representatives.

LOHV-NYC is the first and only political action committee committee focused on animal rights issues in New York City. Founded in 2000 as "Political Action for Animals," we were incorporated as the League of Humane Voters of New York City in November of 2001. Since then, we have grown enormously -- as of January 2005, we had recruited more than six thousand members around the city and had reached tens of thousands with our humane message.

Since our founding, we have been instrumental in helping to elect more than two dozen humane candidates to office! These candidates have gone on to introduce or co-sponsor life-affirming humane legislation in the City Council, State Senate and State Assembly.
