Greyhound Awareness League
GAL is a small Scottish charity run by volunteers and dedicated to raising public awareness of the plight of the retired greyhound. We aim to encourage members of the public to meet (and hopefully adopt) greyhounds and lurchers and to dispel many of the myths surrounding them.

Detailed Information:
GAL is a non-profit making organisation run entirely by volunteers, most of whom have at least one greyhound as a pet themselves. There are no kennelling facilities so volunteers accommodate dogs who are between permanent homes and sympathetic vets help us to treat them. We rely entirely on donations to help us save the lives of dogs who would otherwise meet a far less fortunate fate. Those of you who imagine a greyhound on a track with teeth bared behind a wire muzzle are seeing only one side of this gentle and loving dog. They are victims of exploitation because of their incredible speed and several thousand are bred or imported each year in the hope that a few winners will be found. Many are condemned to death, or much worse. GAL places those who are rejected by the racing industry into loving homes where they become loyal, sensitive and intelligent companions. We also rescue lurchers - greyhound or other sighthound cross dogs who are used for racing, hunting or coursing.
