Michigan Board of State Canvassers Certifies Vote to Restore Dove Shooting Ban
We did it! The Board of State Canvassers officially approved and certified the more than 275,000 petition signatures presented by the Committee to Restore the Dove Shooting Ban to place the referendum on the November 2006 ballot. The new dove shooting law is constitutionally be suspended, blocking planned dove shoots for 2005 and 2006 until Michigan voters have the chance to decide the fate of our mourning doves. » Click here for the full press release (PDF).
Thank you to our volunteers who made this grassroots citizen effort happen! Congratulations to all of the individuals and groups who've worked so hard to collectively bring in those petition signatures and a big thanks to those who continue to donate to keep the effort going! Your dedication and generosity is the reason we've reached our goal of successfully qualifying this measure for the ballot!
What's Next? Mourning doves are traditional backyard songbirds much loved by the people of the state of Michigan. Several recent and historic public opinion polls indicate that the majority of citizens strongly oppose the target shooting of Michigan's Official Bird of Peace. The next step of the campaign is to educate voters about the effort to restore and continue Michigan's long heritage of protecting our mourning doves.
Please help us get our VOTE NO on the Mourning Dove Proposal message to registered Michigan voters by volunteering or donating today to keep this important campaign going. We need your participation to make it a success on Tuesday, November 7, 2006!
