    Wold Vegan Day

IF YOU EAT MEAT AND CALL YOURSELF AN ENVIRONMENTALIST IT IS TIME TO THINK AGAIN!

The 1st of November is World Vegan Day and vegans everywhere plan to show the world that the consumption of meat, dairy, fish and eggs is killing our planet.

The Vegan Society has just produced a sixteen-page environment booklet called ‘Eating the Earth.’ The booklet provides well referenced facts and figures which remove any doubt about the environmental benefits of a vegan diet.

For example, did you know that humans use much less land and water if they eat crops directly rather than through the intermediary of an animal? This is because farmed animals consume much more protein than they produce: most of the protein from their vegetable feeds is used for the animals’ bodily functions and not converted to meat, eggs or milk. More water and land is therefore needed to grow crops for farmed animals to eat, leading to deforestation, water scarcity, soil erosion and increased pesticide use.

Copies of the environment booklet are available from the Vegan Society Information Department. Please call: 01424 448828 or e-mail: [email protected] or check out our website: www.vegansociety.com
